How to shortlist a positioning stage
Use this tool to compare published catalogue ratings. Start with the motion family, then add the requirements that would rule a model out. Leave a limit empty when it is not yet defined; an unknown requirement is not a zero rating.
Set the requirements for your motion
For linear and lift motion, enter minimum travel in millimetres and repeatability in micrometres. Include the fixture and workpiece in the payload. Check the mounting orientation separately: a horizontal payload rating does not establish vertical lifting capacity.
For rotary and goniometer stages, compare angular range, repeatability, centre height and moment limits on the model page. The linear filters do not convert angular ratings into millimetres or micrometres.
Read the result labels
Rated match means the published values meet the numeric limits you entered. It does not confirm every requirement of your installation. Confirm assembly identifies a multi-axis candidate whose assembled configuration needs review. Not rated on this axismeans a required catalogue rating is missing, so engineering must confirm suitability.
Repeatability describes returning to a visited point. It is different from positioning accuracy and commanded resolution; compare these definitions before selecting between proposals.
Check the drawing before requesting a quote
Open each candidate’s specifications and source drawing to check its mounting pattern, usable travel, cable clearance and load arrangement. Confirm motor and controller compatibility, speed under load, operating environment and any value marked Not confirmed.
