Vertical Lift Stages

Z-axis lift tables and scissor lifts, from 6 mm bench travel to 200 kg platforms.

Also called vertical translation stages, Z stages or lift tables — the same machines, under the names different suppliers print on them.

Choosing one

what buyers ask before they quote
Is a vertical lift stage the same as a Z stage?

Yes. Vertical lift stage, vertical translation stage, Z stage and lift table all describe a table driven along the vertical axis. This series runs from 6 mm of bench travel to platforms rated at 200 kg, so the name matters less than the payload and the travel.

What holds the load when the power is off?

The supplied catalogue does not state it, so this site does not either. On a vertical axis that is not a detail: ask engineering to confirm the holding arrangement — screw self-locking, brake, or neither — for the model and the payload before you design an axis that must not drop.

How do I size one?

By payload, travel and mounting envelope, in that order. Every model publishes a payload figure, presumed horizontal and centred because the catalogue does not state the orientation it was taken in. For a vertical axis carrying a cantilevered or off-centre load, treat the published number as a starting point and confirm it against your actual moment arm.

Every figure on these pages is marked with where it comes from: the supplied published catalogue, a value normalised from that source, or a field absent from the source. Nothing is filled in with a zero.
